Peace education

Description

Peace education is equally the search for one's own inner balance, the literacy of social situations and the prevention and resolution of conflicts.

The educators of the OpenTupas peace education course have worked as volunteers in the Teachers Without Borders network and produced peace education material both for international distribution and for teachers in Finland.

War, climate change and threats to the democratic system create uncertainties for the future, which makes peace education even more timely and necessary to prevent.

The exercises in the course are functional and emphasize inclusion. They can be implemented in participants own teaching in addition to peace education to strengthen emotional skills, cooperation skills and influencing.

The course examines the importance of inner peace in building a broader peace, practices dialogue and negotiation situations through functional pedagogy, and considers different channels and means of influence.

The goal of the course is to guide course participants to perceive the world through different perspectives, understanding and perceiving.

Program (5 days)

Welcome

Getting to know each other and grouping.
Going through the pre-assignment.
What is peace? What is conflict? Familiarization with concepts and their meanings.

Inner Peace

Theory and practical exercises about inner peace.
Emotions: How to build students' faith in the future.
Finding peace in nature (forest walk).

A Day in Helsinki

How does urban planning/construction promote peace in the community?
City orienteering and museum/visit to an organization.

Communication

Theory and practical exercises on different ways of communication.
Learning to look at different perspectives.
Dialogue practices.
Nonviolent communication (Rosenberg's model).

Taking Action
